About Me

The other side of depression is mania. It has a totally different face.

People with bipolar disorder can differ greatly. Some may stay on the depressed end more while others may experience more episodes of mania. Others, still may go back and forth rapidly between both. I am one who unfortunately experiences more of the depression more than anything, so I can't tell you a great deal about how the mania goes. I can tell you what I have experienced and what I have seen. There is alot of great resources on the internet you can refer to for more information as well.

Not much else to say about the mania...you just feel like nothing can stop you. And honestly, I don't know if anything can. But, again...if you are in one of these phases and feel like you need to talk to someone or need help...don't hesitate...get help as soon as you can. Be proud of yourself for taking that step. It's a big one to take.

When I have been in manic phases, I have been able to stay up for days and I don't think I even blinked. It's like a total adrenaline rush. I couldn't sit still even for a minute. I had to be doing something. I would clean and do things that didn't really need to be done. I would do them over and over again just to keep myself busy. Talk about energy? If your house needs cleaning or the dog needs a bath...it's perfect. The only downfall to a manic episode is that when you come down from it, you usually hit rock bottom and you fall fast. I have had them a few times and I usually end up doing things I shouldn't. I also spend money that I don't have, so now I'm in all kinds of credit card debt. So, my advice is...if you do get diagnosed with this illness...cut them up as quickly as possible. Or, at least put them in someone's hands you can trust. I'm only 22 years old and I will never get my debt paid off and probably never be able to buy my own home all because of this. I never had a problem budgeting until these "episodes" showed up. I guess what I'm saying is be careful, cause it could be a warning sign as well.
